About

Our History

ThrudBowl (later changed to ThrudBall) was founded by the great Frank (Giraffe) in aid of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. Following its first tournament in 2006, for many years it was held in Bognor Regis and run collectively by the BRGA wargaming club - a group of local enthusiasts who dedicated their time and effort to raise a lot of money for charity.

It was from these beginnings that the heart of Thrudball came: the Orction, Most Thrudlike, and the iconic camping which makes the tournament so different and special were all first done here in Bognor.

The team behind the tournament changed a few times over the years, but the BRGNs continued to run ThrudBall until 2020. Sadly, due to COVID-19, the tournament was cancelled that year.

In 2021 SquadChaos took over the management of this fine Blood Bowl institution, with a clear intention to keep everything going in the spirit of the tournament. With a new venue needed, the tournament was moved from sunny Bognor Regis to Swindon, where it remains hosted by the kind people at Supermarine Rugby Club.

With an emphasis on the four Fs (fun, fundraising and family friendly), SquadChaos are excited to take ThrudBall into the future!

The tournament continues to raise funds for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and, following the death of community member Gymir in 2020, now also fundraises for Mind, with the charity pot split between the two charities. In 2023, Thrudball raised just under £14,000 split between the two charities.
